If you want to venture outside Verona then a visit to Soave is a must, Soave is about 10 miles east of Verona and is mostly associated with white wine, though Soave's main attraction is the magnificent 14th century Rocca Scaligera castle that was built by the Scaligeri family to protect it's city from invading armies.
The castle is situated at the top of a hill that can be reached by foot or car, if your driving there is a car park just outside the castle, once you reach the castle you get a wonderful view of the town below and the vineyards beyond it. The castle itself has lots of extravagant furnishing, with many weapons and armour on display from that period, children will love the castle's many staircases that runs along the fortress, all in all i'm sure you will agree that a visit to Soave is a great day out that the whole family will enjoy. |
